Although the weather forecast was not in our favor we decided to head north for an exciting vacation adventure at the end of August. Our friends the Michalek's invited us to explore this area of the U.P. (upper penninsula). They were kind enough to let all 7 of us tag along. We packed the car full to the brim, with 2 adult bikes and Paige's bike inside the car, along with all of our bags. On top we put the bike trailer inside "the boot". We really need to invest in a bike rack and trailer hitch for the van! We just rented two additional bikes for Kenzie and Tailey when we got on the Island. Mackinac island is completely car free. They only allow use of bikes and horses. It was a strange sensation not to look for cars as we entered the road. However, it was a great feeling to know we only had to share the road with other bikes and the horses, buggies and wagons.

The weather was rainy and cold the whole time we were on the island, but the kids were excited about this adventure and therefore willing to forget they were a little on the chilly side.

In the beginning Paige kept reminding us her hands were cold, but after riding all the way around the island (9 mi.) she was pretty warm. She and Mike played a game of going in and out of the yellow stripes on our "road".

Quincey and Boston were so comfortable they both fell asleep. Here Boston is asleep and snuggled up to Quincey.
After returning to the "downtown" area we enjoyed some pizza, tried some fudge (one of the many things Mackinac is famous for) and warmed up with some hot cocoa! We would have loved to explore the area more, I would have loved to go check out the famous "Somewhere in Time" hotel, but alas, it wasjust too cold! Next time. . . we took the ferry back to St. Ignace and warmed up in the hot tub in our hotel. Aaaaahhh!
