The Journey Eastward--Part One

On Sunday, July 19th, 2009 our family began the biggest adventure yet. We had previously loaded up all of our belongings and sent them on a moving truck to be delivered to Kalamazoo, Michigan. Mike had been there to accept the shipment and to set up the house for us. It worked out quite nicely, he had been working in Kalamazoo while we got the house packed up and then we were in Utah when it was delivered and unpacked.

After a tearful, stress-filled but nice weekend we headed out along I-80 with Cheyenne as our first night's stop. We ran into a nice little rainstorm,

some giant windmills,

and a horse named Osage.

His rider was traveling from Colorado to California. It was going to take him about 2 weeks to do it. We sure appreciated our nice mini-van after meeting him and his horse. They traveled around 30 miles a day and the horse would just eat along the way. He had a sleeping bag rolled up and packed on the horse. It was all wet from the rainstorm we had just passed through.

We pressed onward, looking forward to our destination for the night. Unfortunately, we had made a mistake with our hotel reservations in Cheyenne. Although it was tempting to shell out $200 for a hotel room and stay in Cheyenne along with everyone else that was there for Frontier days. We decided to drive about 45 min. longer into Kimball, Nebraska and stay there instead.
